Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
County of San Diego
Department of Human Resources
The State of California mandates that large organizations must have their staff complete at least one our of sexual harassment prevention training every two years, with supervisors attending an additional hour.

Because of the diverse work of the County staff, every two years our eLearning team takes this as a challenge to design and deliver two hours of engaging online learning content that feels tailor-made to our employees while meeting all state requirements.

We end up with a unique set of informative courses that changes slightly from year to year, keeping our employees engaged in the courses and well informed of any changing laws or policies regarding sexual harassment or discrimination in the workplace. Although the training is mandated to be an hour, on post-completion surveys we regularly average 95+% user satisfaction with the course.
Throughout the course, our goal is to inform our employees of the background information regarding these policies and rules. We want users to have a strong understanding of what rules are in place at the federal, state, and organizational level, but also the impact of these rules and the "why" behind their implementation.
Because harassment and discrimination can come in a variety of forms and situations, a large section of the training is dedicated to fictional scenarios. In these short-form narrative stories, characters are presented with harassment and discrimination, which we identify so users are able to recognize the application of the various definitions in a more real-world setting. The scenarios feature interactive quizzes to keep the user engaged and reinforce their learning in recognizing the different forms that harassment and discrimination can present itself in. The scenarios also feature resolutions, depicting how and when victims can file harassment complaints.
